Abstract

Since there are hundreds and thousands of languages spoken around the world, it
would be quite natural to have countless types of greetings (Ponomaryova, 2010). In
fact, there are more than 7,100 languages spoken in the world today. The first thing
that a learner of any foreign language would be introduced to would be the etiquette
of that particular language which would include greetings, farewell, etc. (Twerefou,
2010).Lingua-pragmatic features of greeting and farewell units
