THE CONCEPT OF MENTAL SKILLS OF AN ATHLETE

Abstract
In order to clarify the nuances of psychological training in sports, we
propose to analyze in detail one of the first conceptual models created by J. Lesik,
President of the International Association of AASP, professor at the Center for
Sports Psychology in Ohio (USA). This model is called "Nine mental skills" –
Nine mental skills. It is based on the idea of self-control: that people of different
personality traits can learn about the same thing. An irascible or phlegmatic
athlete, sociable and withdrawn, grasping everything new on the fly and,
conversely, slow to learn – all of them can master these skills with the help of a
sports psychologist. First, we will reveal their essence, and then we will move on
to the possibilities of evaluating them
