Abstract

This article discusses the concepts of the lexeme, sememe, and types of
semes. The definitions of denotative and connotative meanings provided by linguists
are explained, and their distinctive features are identified. Situations in which
denotative and connotative meanings cannot be clearly distinguished are analyzed
through examples. The inherent and adherent types of connotation are mentioned. In
addition, the article examines the ways in which connotative meaning is formed in
the Uzbek language. Through examples, it is shown that in speech, connotative
meaning can be created by phonetic, lexical, morphological, and syntactic means, as
well as by various extralinguistic means, such as gestures and actions.
