Abstract

Tooth extraction is one of the most common surgical procedures in dental
practice, particularly involving the lower jaw (mandible). Although it is often
considered a routine intervention, lower jaw tooth extractions present unique
anatomical and clinical challenges due to the density of mandibular bone, proximity
to vital structures such as the inferior alveolar nerve, and limited accessibility in
posterior regions. This paper aims to provide an overview of the most common early
and late complications associated with mandibular tooth extraction, emphasizing risk
factors, prevention strategies, and post-operative management.
