Abstract

Dental implantology has revolutionized the treatment of edentulism, offering a
predictable and long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. This overview
explores the principles of dental implantology, including patient selection, surgical
techniques, biomechanical considerations, and prosthetic rehabilitation. The
indications and contraindications for implant placement are discussed, along with
various surgical approaches, such as immediate, early, and delayed implantation. The
importance of osseointegration for long-term implant success is emphasized, and
factors influencing osseointegration, such as implant surface characteristics and bone
quality, are reviewed. The prosthetic phase of implant treatment is also addressed,
including different types of implant-supported restorations and considerations for
achieving optimal esthetics and function. The aim of this overview is to provide a
comprehensive understanding of dental implantology, enabling dental professionals
to deliver effective and predictable implant treatment.
