Dental implantology has revolutionized restorative dentistry, providing a
predictable and long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. This review traces
the history and stages of development of dental implantology from ancient attempts
at tooth replacement to the modern era of evidence-based implant dentistry. It
explores the key milestones, pioneers, and innovations that have shaped the field,
including the discovery of osseointegration, the development of different implant
designs and materials, and the refinement of surgical techniques.
