Abstract

Taboo varies from one society to another based on differences in belief,
morality, and culture. However, the question arises: where did the concept of taboo
actually originate, and what is its history? The word "taboo" originates from Tongan
(tapu) or Fijian tabu (forbidden, prohibited, banned), among others, connected with
Maori tapu.
